The plot for Drop is being kept under wraps for now, but it has been described as a ‘fast-paced thriller’.

Thankfully, some details about the movie have been released, including a growing list of cast members.

Recently, it was revealed that British actor Ed Weeks has joined the cast. Although Weeks’ only horror credit is the HBO Max series Velma, other credits include The IT Crowd and Robot Chicken.

The film will be sprinkled with cast members from iconic modern horror and thriller projects. The cast includes:

  • Violett Beane
  • Brandon Sklenar
  • Meghann Fahy
  • Jeffery Self
  • Gabrielle Ryan
  • Jacob Robinson

Members of the cast have featured in horror and thriller films such as Truth or Dare (2018), Karen (2021), and Your Monster (2024).

The cast’s television credits include Westworld, The White Lotus, Search Party, The Horror of Dolores Roach, and Death and Other Details.

Behind the Scenes of Drop (2025)

Christopher Landon, the director and co-writer of the upcoming thriller, has given fans a look behind the scenes as production gets underway.

Filming started in April 2024, and Landon shared a look at the sets and even showed a scene being filmed on location.

Production is primarily taking place in Ireland, a place that the director described as sounding “like an old woman is being strangled by her own pantyhose at a bus stop.”

Earlier in April, the director tweeted a photo of a set being built.

The large-scale set appears to be for a building, possibly a corporate tower or an apartment in the city, based on the huge windows surrounding the wooden set piece.

It is hard to tell what the set is because it is not yet finished. The director wrote in the tweet,

“80% there. This set is gonna be bonkers.”

The title of the film, Drop, might imply that the story takes place in a tall building. It brings to mind the drop of an elevator in a tall building or the long drop from the side of an apartment tower.

Landon also tweeted a photo of a night shoot taking place on what appears to be the streets of an Irish city.

Accompanying the photo, the director said,

“Night shoots. 🦉”

Although we can’t see what is being filmed in the scene, the photo shows a camera on a crane.

The crane is fixed to a car with the numberplate “ARM64R”, likely in reference to the long arm holding the large cinema camera.

It seems that the upcoming thriller might have some exhilarating driving scenes. The film might be a more action-focused departure from the horror/sci-fi subgenres that Landon usually delivers.

The director also tweeted about his inspiration for the film, saying,

“Finally get to announce this one. I’m so excited to work with such a talented group of people. This is my love letter to DePalma.”

Who is Brian De Palma?

Christopher Landon claims that acclaimed writer/director Brian De Palma will act as inspiration for this upcoming thriller.

De Palma is known for his work in the horror genre, including creating many films from the 1970s that remain popular today.

Some of his classic horror movies include:

  • Carrie (1976)
  • The Fury (1978)
  • Phantom of the Paradise (1974)

What else has Platinum Dunes made?

Platinum Dunes is a production company that quickly rose to popularity after being founded in 2001 by blockbuster trio Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form.

The company mainly focused on creating horror movies based on existing intellectual properties, premiering with the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Platinum Dunes then moved on to original works in the 2010s, with projects such as the A Quiet Place and The Purge franchises.

It was a formula that worked in their favour, as the production company has grossed over $1.5 billion at the box office from horror movies alone. Their total filmography has landed over $2.2 billion in total.

Any fan of horror from the 2000s can rattle off a few Platinum Dunes classics.

Films that the iconic company produced during its first decade (2000 – 2010) include:

  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006)
  • The Amityville Horror (2005)
  • The Hitcher (2007)
  • The Unborn (2009)
  • Friday the 13th (2009)
  • A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

From 2010 onwards, Platinum Dunes started producing original franchises, including:

  • The Purge Franchise
    • The Purge (2013)
    • The Purge: Anarchy (2014)
    • The Purge: Election Year (2016)
    • The First Purge (2018)
    • The Forever Purge (2021)
  • Ouija (2014) and Ouija: Origin of Evil (2016)
  • A Quiet Place (2018) and A Quiet Place Part II (2021)

Landon is no stranger to the Blumhouse brand, creating horror films such as Freaky and the popular Happy Death Day films under the Blumhouse banner.

These films were also distributed by Universal Pictures; however, this thriller will be the writer/director’s first collaboration with Platinum Dunes.

We are excited to see what will come of this collaboration between such a talented director and iconic production company!
