  • A behind the scenes photo revealing the movie logo was tweeted during production, but has since been deleted from Twitter

Netflix is finally set to release the long-awaited upcoming Christopher Landon-produced horror comedy movie, titled Time Cut.

The film is expected to be released sometime during 2024, after being filmed way back in 2021 and kept under wraps by the streaming giant.

Although we haven’t received many updates about the upcoming movie and there hasn’t been any significant marketing or press, we do have an idea of what the official logo will look like thanks to a now-deleted behind-the-scenes set photo from the movie.

We also know the plot and have seen some production stills, so the marketing is getting ready to kick off.

Read on to see the set photo that reveals the logo the production used during filming!

What is Time Cut?

We know that Christopher Landon and director/co-writer Hannah Macpherson have quietly been working on a new Netflix film titled Time Cut since at least 2021.

Director and co-writer of Time Cut, Hannah Macpherson, is known for her directorial work on horror TV shows such as School Spirits and Into the Dark.

The upcoming horror comedy film has been described as ‘Back to the Future’ meets ‘Scream’, so we are expecting an exciting and genre-bending fright fest.

Reports that this movie was filmed in 2021 confirm the long road to release that Time Cut has had to endure.

Fans of Landon’s other works, such as Happy Death Day and Freaky, have been waiting for updates on this film for many years.

The IMDb page for the upcoming film first appeared in 2022 with basic information like an ‘In-production’ status and, interestingly, a release date of 2022.

Over the years the release date has been amended as the film continued missing its release windows.

Watch the trailer below for Macpherson’s episode of Into the Dark, titled ‘Pure’!

What is the plot of Time Cut?

According to IMDb, the plot for Time Cut follows a high school student who accidentally travels back in time to the year 2003. While stranded in the past, she has to stop the serial killer who murdered her sister in the future.

The production company in charge of the film, Ace Entertainment, has more detail on their website than what appears on the IMDb page.

The website states,

“It’s BACK TO THE FUTURE meets SCREAM when LUCY FIELD — a modern high school senior and amateur inventor — accidentally finds a time machine and travels back to 2003, the year her sister was murdered by an unknown serial killer. Now torn between solving the mystery that has undone her parents and her hometown, saving the sister that she never knew, and irreparably altering the future — and her own existence — Lucy must decide how to stop the slasher, save her family, and blend into 2003.”

We know that Hannah Macpherson has a taste for the horror genre from her filmography, and we have seen Landon’s work in horror with his movies like Freaky and Happy Death Day.

Landon also introduced a significant amount of sci-fi to the plot of his sequel film, Happy Death Day 2U.

This qualifies both of them to be helming this movie, and having co-writer Michael Kennedy onboard will be sure to add an interesting perspective.

Michael Kennedy was a writer on both Freaky and the recent Christmas horror movie, It’s a Wonderful Knife, which we will discuss below.

This plot involves time travel, however it doesn’t appear to be caused by supernatural forces, like we saw with the body-swap ritual in Freaky.

Instead, science may be going too far, as the main character Lucy is going to be using her scientific knowledge to travel through time.

We are in for some e=mcSCARE.

Does the plot feel a bit familiar?

Horror fans may draw comparisons between the plot of Time Cut and the recent Amazon Studios horror movie, Totally Killer.

Totally Killer: Time travelling to the past to prevent a murder in the future

Totally Killer follows a teenager whose mother is murdered by a serial killer who has terrorised her hometown for decades. Using science, she travels back to 1987 to prevent somebody in the past from becoming the murderous serial killer who changed her world.

It’s a Wonderful Knife: Alternate realities

It’s a Wonderful Knife has many parallels to Time Cut, as well as Totally Killer, and even the Happy Death Day franchise.

The Christmas-themed horror comedy was a loose retelling of the classic story, It’s a Wonder Life.

The film follows another teenage character who travels to an alternate dimension, where without her positive influence in the community, the lives of the people in her town could be much, much worse.

Fighting against a creepy Christmas slasher, she needs to save her town and make things right so she can return home to her own dimension.

There is obviously a demand for these themes in modern horror comedies, as studios are playing on this concept from a number of different angles.

Considering Time Cut was filmed in 2021, it would probably have benefitted from releasing before the above films to avoid audiences getting tired of these themes.

Regardless, we are excited to find out how Macpherson and Kennedy execute the Time Cut plot under the guidance of Christopher Landon!

Who is in the cast of Time Cut?

While we know some of the casting for Time Cut, we don’t yet know the significance of each character to the plot.

The extended version of the plot provided by Ace Entertainment tells us that Lucy Field, played by Madison Bailey, will be the main character of the film.

🔪 HORROR TRIVIA

Did you know that Freaky was originally going to be titled Freaky Friday the 13th?

The original title referenced the classic body-swap comedy, Freaky Friday, and the summer camp slasher movie, Friday the 13th. Freaky takes place on a Friday the 13th.

Some of the other cast and characters revealed so far include:

  • Gil (Michael Shanks)
  • Character unknown (Griffin Gluck)
  • Character unknown (Antonia Gentry)
  • Jessica (Summer H. Howell)
  • Emmy Golden (Megan Best)
  • Deputy Craven (Adam Hurtig)

Once we see the trailer for Time Cut and learn more about the plot, we will know the role that each of these characters will play.

Is there a Time Cut trailer yet?

As the production has been mostly kept under wraps, there hasn’t been a trailer released yet.

We have had a peek at the upcoming horror comedy movie through stills released by Netflix.

Netflix may choose to release the Time Cut movie trailer soon, but the release of the trailer will ultimately depend on the release date that they choose for the film.

We haven’t got an official logo for the movie yet, however, the IMDb page does show a potential poster design for the movie.

The poster on the IMDb page is not confirmed to be from Netflix, nor is it credited to anybody as fan-made work.

Interestingly, the design of the poster looks nothing like that of the logo pictured in the deleted tweet (more on the deleted tweet below).

When is the Time Cut release date?

We don’t have an official release date for Time Cut yet, however, the IMDb page states that the film is ‘Expected 2024’.

In February 2024, Netflix created a catalogue listing for the upcoming horror comedy film, but they have not provided a release date or any imagery on the page.

The Netflix catalogue page provides some details that we already knew about what to expect from the film. It confirms,

  • Genres: Thriller Movies, Teen Movies
  • This movie is… Suspenseful, Exciting

The page also states the movie runtime to be 1 hour and 35 minutes.

The perfect length for a quick and easy spooky movie night!

Netflix continues to keep this production on the down-low, probably knowing the hype that can be generated with a well-timed horror comedy release (looking at you, Happy Death Day, with your $125 million box office).

With production stills being released and the Netflix page being created, we are sure to start hearing more about this upcoming horror comedy soon.

We also know from the 2023 Netflix engagement report that Christopher Landon’s latest movie, We Have a Ghost, achieved 124.4 million viewing hours during the reporting period, so his name has a lot of clout amongst audiences.

Were there any behind-the-scenes photos from the secretive movie?

A now-deleted tweet by co-writer of the film Michael Kennedy was reported on in 2021 and revealed some exciting information for those looking forward to this film.

Thankfully for fans, once it’s on the internet, it’s on the internet.

The tweet is viewable via this Web Archive record of the page.

See the deleted tweet below!

Stating that filming began the day before the tweet on July 6, 2021, the tweet was accompanied by a photo that appears to be from behind the scenes of the upcoming 2024 horror comedy.

The photo is of a video monitor right before a take on set, with a clapboard about to be clicked for a scene being filmed in a high school hallway.

The tweet credits the image to Ace Entertainment, the production company behind the film.

Interestingly, the clapboard shows a very retro logo.

It depicts blue and pink text that is sliced horizontally and reads ‘TIMECUT’. Other details include the director, Hannah McPherson, and the shooting date.

Did Halyna Hutchins work on Time Cut?

The clapboard also shows that the director of photography (DP) at the time, was Halyna Hutchins, who made headlines when her death occured on the set of upcoming western movie, Rust.

Hutchins was accidentally shot with a live round by actor Alec Baldwin while he and the crew were practicing a take while filming at the Bonanza Creek Ranch.

Neither the IMDb page for Time Cut or Halyna Hutchins’ IMDb page state that she worked on this film, however Hutchins’ Wikipedia filmography does list the upcoming horror comedy.

When and why was the tweet deleted?

Archive records show that the tweet was deleted by October 29, 2022.

According to the tweet, it was posted on July 7, 2021.

We haven’t received an official poster or logo from Netflix yet, so this logo may not be the final version that they use for marketing and wasn’t intended for distribution.

You may think that somebody at Netflix thought that the tweet shouldn’t be up for some reason.

If Kennedy had to delete the image, it would have been safe to assume that it was deleted because Netflix said so.

The Internet Archive shows that the tweet was still up a few weeks later on 31 July 2021.

However, looking at the most recent archive record from October 2022, the tweet was no longer available.

Interestingly, Kennedy’s entire Twitter profile was actually deleted sometime before 29 January 2022, which is likely to be when the tweet was wiped.

Michael Kennedy deleted his Twitter profile sometime around/before January 2022, including the BTS tweet.

Kennedy’s tweet was one of the very few looks we have had at this upcoming horror comedy movie. The contents of the deleted photo went underreported while the production silently continued making Time Cut.

Why has Time Cut taken so long to get released?

We don’t know officially why Time Cut was filmed in 2021, but not slated for release until 2024.

Hopefully, the extended production for this film was caused by Netflix taking its time to make sure it was perfect, and not because they are worried audiences will dislike it.

While fans will need to continue waiting for this new horror comedy movie, we are hopeful that 2024 will be the year that it finally gets released.

We are excited to see it when it finally gets released!

In the meantime, why not check out Hannah Macpherson’s Season 1 episode of Into the Dark?

Into the Dark is a Hulu horror anthology series that features feature-length episodes and a terrifying new horror story every week.

Each episode focuses on a theme or event, such as Halloween.
