A24 has confirmed that the sequel to the brilliant Australian horror movie Talk To Me is ‘coming soon’. Australian filmmaking brothers Danny and Michael Philippou are expected to return as directors.

Talk To Me was one of the most hyped horror movies of 2023 and quickly became a major critical and commercial success.

All of this for a movie that was directed by two YouTubers from South Australia!

The film joins a handful of other fantastic Australian horror movies that have made it to the world stage, such as:

  • Wolf Creek,
  • The Loved Ones, and
  • The Babadook.

These are all fantastic examples of what Australia can contribute to the horror genre!

A24, the studio behind the 2023 horror movie Talk To Me and its upcoming sequel, currently titled Talk 2 Me, tweeted a short teaser for the movie in August 2023.

The studio tweeted the below video to announce the upcoming horror sequel.

The short Talk 2 Me teaser trailer features the now-infamous hand from the first film as it slowly rotates and distorts itself into a ‘2’.

The screen then shows ‘Talk 2 Me The Sequel’, followed by ‘Coming soon’.

An audio excerpt from Talk To Me plays in the background, with the character of Hayley (played by Zoe Terakes) saying,

“I heard it was the hand of a Satanist, and the other hand is just out there…”

This teases the upcoming film and confirms that the hand from the first film will return to cause more terror in the horror sequel.

Although we don’t know much, the ending of the first film provided a glimpse into how the evil cursed hand can go global with its dangerous powers.

We are still awaiting official confirmation from A24 of the Talk 2 Me cast, plot, trailer, production schedule, and release date.

Why Talk 2 Me will be a must-watch for any horror movie fans

Australian filmmakers Danny and Michael Philippou previously had careers on YouTube with their channel, RackaRacka.

The channel started in Adelaide (Australia) and has amassed almost 7 million subscribers and over a billion views of their short horror comedy videos.

Although Talk To Me was widely released in 2023, the horror movie actually premiered in October 2022 at the Adelaide Film Festival.

In fact, the production of Talk To Me was supported financially by the Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund (AFFIF).

AFFIF is an equity investment fund that provides financial support to Australian filmmaking projects destined for both the big and small screen.

The fund, established in 2003, has assisted over 100 productions. It is the first fund of its kind in Australia.

The Adelaide Film Festival Investment Fund has supported other horror projects including:

  • the outback zombie film Cargo, and
  • the sci-fi horror thriller movie I Am Mother.

Filmmakers can expect a budget boost of between $10,000 to $130,000, depending on the type of production. Films then make their way to the Adelaide Film Festival for studios to scout for distribution.

We don’t know yet whether the AFFIF will be providing any funding for the upcoming horror movie sequel Talk 2 Me.

Maybe the Philippou brothers will use the Adelaide Film Festival to premiere the sequel for old-time’s sake!

The filmmaking Philippou brothers were nominated for Best Director(s) by the Dead Meat Horror Awards, an online horror movie celebration. The awards were broadcast live on YouTube in March 2024.

The awards are presented by the popular horror movie YouTube channel Dead Meat, which is known for its kill count videos.

Being an Australian film nominated for this esteemed horror movie award show puts Talk To Me in a very exclusive club.

The brutal Argentinian horror film When Evil Lurks swept the 2024 awards, giving hope to other non-US films for future years!

In addition to Best Director(s), the Australian horror movie Talk To Me was also nominated for three other awards, including:

  • Best Original Film
  • Best Lead Performer (Sophia Wilde as Mia)
  • Best Supporting Performer (Joe Bird as Riley)

We hope their upcoming horror movie sequel, Talk 2 Me, will enjoy the same number of nominations—and maybe some wins!

Are Michael and Danny Philippou quitting TheRackaRacka?

With all this success, fans of the RackaRacka YouTube channel might wonder whether the Philippou brothers will quit YouTube.

Danny Philippou has said of their success during an August 2023 New York Times interview,

“I know we want to make cinematic experiences, and always be in theaters,”

Michael added,

“We don’t want to be chasing the algorithm our whole lives.”

It sounds like they are getting tired of creating videos at the whim of YouTube’s mysterious and complex algorithms. Ad revenue from YouTube tends to change monthly, making income unpredictable for online creators.

You can be sure that the brothers are earning more from their rumoured seven-figure deal with the famous independent studio A24 than they would with YouTube.

We think that the Australian filmmakers will deliver another fantastic movie.

I would be happy to see the evil cursed hand become a franchise or even a shared universe similar to the Conjuring movies (but with Evil Dead vibes).

We have to wait until A24 releases more information about Talk 2 Me. In the meantime, we can continue rewatching Talk To Me and being terrified by that scene (IYKYN).

Talk To Me is available to stream online now.
