• Production is filming scenes in New York this week for the upcoming second season
  • David Schwimmer and Ana Ortiz have joined the cast, in addition to a new group of teen stars
  • The series will now be an anthology, a plot summary for the new story has been revealed

Goosebumps is a Disney+ teen horror series that loosely adapts stories from the popular RL Stine book series of the same title.

Audiences fell in love with the remake series when it premiered in October 2023, although some fans of the 1990s series were left disappointed.

Premiering on the streaming platform just in time for Halloween, Goosebumps raked in over 4 million views within the first 3 days of the series premiere.

While the majority seem to have embraced the series, some wish it paid more homage to the beloved TV adaption from the 1990s.

Unfortunately for nostalgic Goosebumps fans, Disney+ has given the show its own unique take on the books and is taking a more modernised approach.

We recently learned that Season 2 of the Disney+ series would be an anthology, similar to the way that Ryan Murphy’s “American Horror Story” changes the characters and starts a new story each season.

Fans who were hoping to see their favourite characters from Season 1 return will unfortunately be missing out.

Thankfully, they did a great job of casting Season 1 and we think that they can do just as well with Season 2!

Keep reading to find out when Goosebumps Season 2 is filming, who has been cast, and the plot details.

Goosebumps Season 2: New York Filming Location

Right around when casting announcements started coming out, we were treated to the news that filming on Goosebumps Season 2 would be beginning soon.

Redditor u/africuhh posted a photo to r/Bushwick showing a “NO PARKING” sign taped to a telephone pole for the production.

The photo shows that filming will be taking place by Halsey Station in New York, where the L line is located.

Filming is scheduled to take place from March 25 through to March 29, with parking restrictions starting from Sunday March 24 at 10pm.

We don’t know whether the whole season will be filmed in New York, or just a few episodes. The 5 days of filming does tell us that there will be at least a few scenes set in the city.

Keen-eyed fans might notice that the title of the series, Goosebumps, is misspelled on the signage.

The sign has spelled it “Goosbumps”. It seems like somebody forgot the “e”!

Goosebumps Season 1 filming location

Justin Long posted photos from the set of Goosebumps while they were filming Season 1 of the show.

The first season of the hit Disney+ series was primarily filmed in Canada.

Long’s post shows him holding his wife, Kate Bosworth, in front of a snowy backdrop, with rows of production trailers behind them.

The post was tagged with the location “Whistler Olympic Park”, which is an outdoor recreation facility located in British Columbia, Canada.

Will Goosebumps Season 2 be premiering during Halloween?

We don’t know what cast members will be filming at this location, or what episodes they will be filming, but filming this early in the year puts production on-track to be ready for another Halloween 2024 premiere.

Disney knows the value of premiering content around the spooky season, providing a steady stream of scary movies and family-friendly DCOMs for Halloween over the years.

Goosebumps Season 2: Confirmed Cast Members

David Schwimmer has officially joined the production, spiritually replacing the gaping hole left in our hearts by the loss of Justin Long from the series.

Yes, the giraffe from the Madagascar franchise will be bringing us the next set of stories from the popular RL Stine TV show.

Headshots of David Schwimmer and Ana Ortiz.

He is also known as Ross Geller from the 1990s TV sitcom Friends.

Joining Schwimmer is Ugly Betty star Ana Ortiz. She played Hilda Suarez, the sister of the titular character in the Salma Hayek-produced dramedy.

In addition to the Friends and Ugly Betty alumni, a slew of fresh faces have also signed onto the show.

New cast members include many genre newcomers, including:

  • Sam McCarthy as Devin (Dead to Me)
  • Jayden Bartels as Cece (Side Hustle)
  • Elijah Cooper as CJ (That Girl Lay Lay)
  • Galilea La Salvia as Frankie (Party Down)
  • Francesca Noel as Alex (R#J)

The characters of Devin and Cece are going to be portrayed as fraternal twins. This is a type of twin where the two children look like siblings, instead of identical copies of one another.

Schwimmer will be playing Anthony, the father of the twins.

Goosebumps Season 2: Plot Synopsis

The new story begins with Devin and Cece, fraternal twins adjusting to life with their recently divorced dad, Anthony.

When the duo discovers a threat stirring, they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery.

As they delve into the unknown, Devin, Cece and their friends — Alex, CJ and Frankie — find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.

We know that Schwimmer will be playing the character of Anthony, father of twins Devin and Cece who are visiting dad for the summer.

And it sounds like we will see CJ, Frankie, and Alex all befriend Devin and Cece as they face a fresh batch of RL Stine’s horrors.

The plot does seem similar to the first season of Goosebumps, which explored another 30-year-old mystery.

Season 1 was set around a long-hidden secret that resulted in the death of local teen Harold Biddle in 1993. It was this secret that brought Slappy the Dummy back to Port Lawrence to cause chaos.

What Goosebumps books are being adapted for Season 2?

We haven’t received any confirmation of the Goosebumps books that will be turned into episodes for Season 2 of the series yet.

Season 1 teased the story each week by naming most episodes about the story that it was adapted from.

Some of the Season 1 episodes that share their name with their respective Goosebumps books include:

  • The Haunted Mask (Episode 2)
  • Go Eat Worms (Episode 4)
  • Night of the Living Dummy (Episode 6 & 9)
  • Welcome to Horrorland (Episode 10)

We do know that Season 2 will have less episodes. Disney+ has already confirmed that it will be an eight episode series, instead of ten episodes like Season 1.

We can’t wait to see how this new season of Goosebumps turns out, especially if some of it takes place in a big city, instead of a town.

It’s always tough to say whether a new cast is up to the challenge, but with the right writing and good direction, it could be better than Season 1.

Hopefully the producers will include some of the scariest and beloved RL Stine stories from the 1990s!
