Although Danielle Harris has graced our screens since the 1980s, she has gone a little quiet over the last few years while she raised her sons.

After a 5-year break from taking on any major new acting gigs, Danielle Harris has announced that she is back on set and excited to bring more iconic characters to life – and working on an autobiography!

Danielle Harris returning to horror movies

Danielle Harris, the iconic scream queen from horror franchises such as Halloween and Hatchet, has announced that she is returning to acting.

Posting a photo to her Instagram to update her fans, Harris said,

“I’ve taken the last 5 years to be completely present for my boys, putting my career on the back burner on a slow slow simmer.”

“Creating content at home and only traveling for short weekend cons to stay connected to what has given me the career I worked so hard to stay relevant in.”

Harris has two young sons that she has taken time out of her career to care for:

  • Carter, her first child (born in 2017), and
  • Jagger, her second child (born in 2018).

She continued,

“Being a Mom has been and will always be the most important “role” in my life’s journey, but at my very core I will always be an actress. My world functions thanks to my husbands support and my family and friends.”

“I’m ready to get back home, but I’m grateful that I’m inspired again. Im excited to show you a different side of me on screen.”

Finally saying,

“Looking at photos from the monitor on set while filming, I look like a different woman. My boys have softened me and shown me a love that has penetrated me so deeply, I can’t help but carry it with me wherever I go.”

We love that Danielle has found happiness in parenthood, but we are equally happy to hear that she is back on set!

What has Danielle Harris been up to?

Although Harris took a break from acting, she never entirely stopped.

She did not come back to the genre until 2007, when she returned to Haddonfield and confronted Michael Myers again in the Halloween remake.

Harris has consistently worked in film and TV since 1988. The only years in which she did not take on any acting projects were 1995, 2006, and 2022.

Danielle Harris Trivia 🤓

Danielle Harris‘s first appearance in the Halloween movie franchise was in 1988, the same year Alex Vincent, another famous horror child actor, took to our screens as Andy Barclay in the original Child’s Play.

Harris was 11 years old for her debut, while Alex was only 6!

A true scream queen through and through, almost half of the 100+ roles Danielle Harris has portrayed have been within the horror genre!

Harris is famous for a mix of iconic high and low-budget horror roles, which has given her a strong fanbase when attending horror conventions.

In her March 2024 update, she thanked her fans, adding,

“Thanks to all of you for supporting me through my journey and I’m ready to show you who I’ve become.”

Danielle also records a podcast titled Talk Scary To Me, where she and fellow scream queen Scout Taylor-Compton chat about all things horror.

Upcoming Danielle Harris autobiography

In a February 2024 Instagram post, Harris quietly confirmed that she is working on an autobiography.

“Throwback. Found this photo in my bins! I’m digging through for my Autobiography decades of gems.”

Posting a throwback photo of herself dressed in the iconic young Michael Myers clown costume, Harris confirmed that fans will soon be able to get a peek at her long and exciting career.

The photo was taken during the production of Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers.

This is one of her most iconic roles, despite the fact that she was only 11 years old when the film was made!

We’re so excited to read her autobiography and find out what stories she has to share. We hope that we get to hear stories from her time in low-budget movies

Giving us another peek behind the scenes of her career, Harris also shared a photo from behind the scenes of Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead (1991).

In the photo, Harris is pictured alongside co-stars from the hit 1990’s black comedy, including Christina Applegate.

Harris is helping get our hopes up with her promise, teasing in one of her posts,

Lots and lots to share with you!!!

Harris hasn’t revealed any details yet other than a few photos that may end up in the autobiography, so we will have to wait to find out the release date.

Halloween in Haddonfield, USA

Danielle Harris got her start in horror movies in Halloween 4 as Jamie Lloyd, the daughter of Laurie Strode.

Jamie Lee Curtis played the character of Laurie Strode in Halloween 1 & 2, H20 and Resurrection. She returned to the franchise as Laurie for the updated Halloween trilogy produced by Blumhouse, which premiered in 2018.

Because Jamie Lloyd is Laurie’s daughter, this also makes her Michael’s niece.

Playing the role twice, Harris portrayed Jamie Lloyd in:

  • Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988)
  • Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)

However, Halloween 5 would not be the last time that Harris faced Michael Myers.

The divisive 2007 and 2009 Rob Zombie (also known as Robert Zombert) films Halloween and Halloween II brought Harris back to play an essential role in the story.

Once an 11-year-old fighting against Michael Myers, she was now back to meet a new version of the iconic slasher villain.

In the remake, she portrays Annie Brackett, Laurie Strode’s best friend (now portrayed by Scout Taylor-Compton).

Brad Dourif, the Oscar-nominated voice of Chucky the killer doll, plays Sherriff Brackett, Annie’s Father in this entry in the franchise.

Annie Brackett was initially portrayed in the 1978 Halloween movie by Nancy Kyes (credited as Nancy Loomis). Charles Cyphers played Sherriff Bracket.

All three Halloween movies that Danielle Harris has starred in have been controversial amongst fans of the slasher franchise.

Fans mixed on Danielle Harris Halloween movies

Many fans find the storylines explored in Halloween 4, 5 and 6 silly.

In addition, fans of the Halloween movies have been criticising the Rob Zombie remake since the studio greenlit it.

In Halloween 4-6, the franchise looks to the stars to explain Michael’s strange abilities.

Michael Myers Trivia 🔪

Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers features the late George P Wilbur as The Shape. Wilbur was a Hollywood stuntman known for other iconic movies such as Escape From New York and Die Hard.

George passed away in February 2023.

It is stated in the film that Michael’s immortality is connected to ancient pagan rituals, and what happens next is written in the stars.

This supernatural backstory added a new and different layer to the Halloween storyline, much like Halloween 3: Season of the Witch did.

The Rob Zombie remake took the franchise in a grittier direction and explored Michael’s childhood backstory more deeply.

Watch the trailer for Halloween (2007) below. See if you can spot Brad Dourif, the voice of Chucky!

Fans of The Shape weren’t satisfied seeing Michael’s childhood play out, as it meant less time seeing Michael hunt unsuspecting teens in the famous William Shatner mask.

Upcoming Michael Myers/Halloween TV series

Iconic horror production company Miramax recently announced that they are working on bringing Michael Myers to the small screen.

Miramax, in partnership with Halloween franchise rights-holders Trancas International Films, plans on creating a new horror TV series based on the Halloween franchise.

Trancas International Films has been involved in every Halloween project to date and remains the rights-holders of the entire Halloween franchise.

Miramax is famous for producing horror movies such as:

  • From Dusk Til Dawn
  • Scream 1 – 4
  • Hostel
  • The Faculty

Burying the Hatchet with Victor Crowley

Danielle Harris was also in the increasingly gory Hatchet films, although not initially.

Harris played the character of Marybeth Dunstan in three of the four Hatchet movies.

Filmmaker Adam Green created the Hatchet franchise, which follows various groups of people as they try to stop Victor Crowley, a legendary villain who stalks the swamps of New Orleans.

The Hatchet movies are as gory as they come, and no character is ever truly safe from Victor.

Despite all four Hatchet movies sharing the same backwater bayou setting, it never grows tired because of the film’s writing and the energy of the cast.

Harris’s character was originally played by Amara Zaragoza (as Tamara Feldman). However, the actress dropped out of the franchise after the first film.

Danielle was stepping into a unique role, as the first three films in the Hatchet franchise all occur on the same night.

See Danielle Harris get ready to take Victor Crowley down once and for all in the trailer for Hatchet 3 (2013) below!

Each film in the original Hatchet trilogy ends precisely where the next film starts. Danielle was not just filling the role of a previous actor, but she was picking it up at the exact moment that the last actor filmed.

As usual, Harris delivers a strong and endearing performance as Marybeth Dunstan.

We see her fight Victor several times throughout the movies, and she is now an essential part of the franchise’s overall storyline.

Upcoming Danielle Harris horror movies

Harris always gives her fans something to look forward to, and she has five upcoming projects, according to her IMDb.

The five upcoming Dannielle Harris films and their production statuses are:

  • Stream (Completed)
  • Flesh (Post-production)
  • The Host App (Post-production
  • The Pitchfork Retreat (In production)
  • Yankee Rose (Pre-production)

Making good on her promise to fans, each of the above films will be a horror film.

Two of the upcoming horror films, Stream and The Pitchfork Retreat, are being produced by Fuzz On The Lens Productions.

Fuzz On The Lens is the same production company that created the hit film Terrifier 2. It is also behind the highly anticipated Terrifier 3 and the 2021 horror history documentary Pennywise: The Story of It.

Watch the terrifying teaster trailer for the upcoming 2024 horror movie Terrifier 3 below!

The production company is also in pre-production on an untitled Steamboat Willie horror movie. It will take the now copyright-free classic Disney scene and turn it into a terrifying horror boat ride movie.

The copyright on Steamboat Willie expired in early 2024, meaning that filmmakers can start to riff on the intellectual property (within reason), much like Rhys Frake-Waterfield is doing with properties such as Winnie the Pooh and Peter Pan.
