With messy public feuds happening between streaming giants and the creatives they employ, such as the cancelled second season of Mike Flanagan’s The Midnight Club (which ended way too soon), there are no guarantees in the world of streaming.

There is only one sure way to know whether a made-for-streaming show was a success: it gets renewed for another season (but it’s only safe until its next renewal).

Thankfully for fans of the 2023 rebooted version of Goosebumps, Disney has confirmed that this series will be coming back for a second season.

What do we know about Goosebumps Season 2?

Goosebumps Season 2 is going to be a whole new concept – new stories, new characters, and possibly a whole new cast!

The first season of the Goosebumps remake series premiered on Disney+ in October 2023 and aired until November 17. It loosely adapted the popular stories published by RL Stine in the 90’s (and still up to this day).

Goosebumps Season 1 reaction

Fans of the original Goosebumps (1995-98) TV series were a little disappointed by the new take on this iconic classic Scholastic property. In particular, fans were not happy with the changes made to the Slappy character.

Much like the initial reaction to Velma, this hasn’t affected the show’s ability to be renewed for a second season. In fact, Goosebumps was one of the most-watched shows on Disney+ in 2023 according to Ayo David, President of Disney Branded Television.

As of the end of season 1, the new series currently has a 74% tomatometer. That’s considered a decent score for a show that had very big shoes to fill!

What is different about Goosebumps Season 2?

Goosebumps Season 2 is going to make the series anthological – meaning that it will become an anthology series like American Horror Story. This season is going to start fresh, abandoning the characters and storylines established in Season 1.

The show will still pull inspiration from the original iconic Goosebumps stories written by RL Stine (and his team of ghost writers), however we don’t know yet if it will follow those stories more closely than Season 1 did.

We can expect to see a lot of new actors in the mix if there are big changes being made to the story structure of the show.

What is the plot of Goosebumps Season 2?

As reported, the official plot from Disney states, “teenage siblings discover a threat within their home, setting off a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, the duo find themselves entangled in the story of five teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.”

This could be quite different plot to the ghost story that we got in Season 1! We don’t know yet what the threat in their home will be, but we are sure will it will be a deadly RL Stine creation.

Season 1 used classic Goosebumps book titles to name its episodes, such as The Haunted Mask and Go Eat Worms, so we hope that Season 2 continues to honour the original source material in little ways like this like this.

Who is returning for Goosebumps Season 2?

Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like any characters or actors from the first season will be returning to Goosebumps.

While we would love to see our favourite scream king Justin Long return to the series, we are excited to see that the cast has finally be announced!

David Schwimmer and Ana Ortiz will be joined by a new teen crew who will be facing off against RL Stine’s monstrous creations.

When will Season 2 of Goosebumps premiere?

Unfortunately, there is no official release date for the premiere of Goosebumps Season 2 yet.

We are hoping for another release that crosses over Halloween, which gives us the perfect viewing conditions for a spooky series like this!

In March 2024, it was reported that filming had begun on the second season.

A Redditor uploaded a photo of posters warning residents not to part their cars outside a New York location due to production moving in.

Disney hasn’t confirmed whether the recent Hollywood strikes have impacted the progress of writing and producing Season 2.

How long will season 2 be?

Disney has confirmed that Season 2 of Goosebumps will consist of only 8 episodes. This is another change between Season 1 and Season 2, as the first season has 10 episodes.

Is there a trailer for Goosebumps Season 2 yet?

Unfortunately, we do not yet have any peek at the new season. Disney has not yet released the trailer, any images from production, or any further updates on the progress of Goosebumps Season 2.
