Despite recent news about the co-founders of Supermassive Games stepping down, as reported by PC Gamer, Season 2 of the highly anticipated Dark Pictures Anthology is still on the way.
With Supermassive co-founders and brothers Pete and Joe Samuels stepping down from their roles at the gaming company, the next season of the Dark Pictures Anthology may be the first games released by the studio under new leadership.
What do we know so far?
Keeping in line with their traditions, Supermassive slipped a teaser trailer for the first game of Season 2 into the end credits of the Season 1 finale, The Devil in Me.
The studio has done this for every game in the series so far, so we hope they keep it up! The teaser revealed the (long suspected) title of the Season 2 premiere: Directive 8020.

Publishers also teased the new game more recently on X (formerly Twitter) on 1 January 2024.
They tweeted a short video showing an eerie planet with a strange fog around it.

Directive 8020 is the next game in the Dark Pictures Anthology.
The game doesn’t have an official plot yet, however we expect it to focus on the crew of a space mission that encounters something otherworldly.
We don’t know yet whether what they encounter will be supernatural or alien, but we are excited to see this franchise tread new ground for itself by going into space.
There isn’t an official release date for Directive 8020 yet, but we know it will be later in 2024.
The Dark Pictures games are usually released in time to enjoy them during the spooky season.
Hopefully the upcoming entry in the franchise will continue to deliver the scares through its gameplay, as these games have become an excellent entry-point for horror fans that are new to gaming.
What about the other games in the Dark Pictures Anthology Season 2?
As reported by Gematsu in 2022, trademarks were discovered that revealed other potential titles for games in Season 2 of the anthology such as:
- The Craven Man,
- O Death,
- Intercession, and
- Winterfold.

The trademarks for each of these titles include an logo that might give you an idea of what each of these titles means.
We have seen the Directive 8020, but we now also get to see what other future titles might look like. See each of the potential logos above.

Interestingly, there are 5 titles here, but there are only 4 titles in Season 1 of the Dark Pictures Anthology.
We don’t know yet whether all these games will be part of Season 2, or whether one of these may actually be the first game of Season 3. If the seasons are going to be the same length every time, we may be looking at a Season 3 teaser!
In addition to this upcoming game, the studio is busy bringing Until Dawn, their beloved PlayStation exclusive, to PC for the first time.
Until Dawn will be available for PC sometime later in 2024 – hopefully we get a release date soon!
